Someone, not so famous, once said:
"Today will soon enough become tomorrow, and spent wisely, will then become a yesterday to remember".
How will yours be remembered? That is the question; not so much whether it is worth remembering, but whether it can be remembered.
There are those times that even the best of minds prefer not to remember. Yet, they must, and do. There are, more often, those times we want desperately to remember and cannot, no matter how hard we try. Why? The reasons are numerous and since this isn't a medically oriented blog, I'll not venture there.
This year will be quite different (I hope) than the one just past. Ahead, there is hope. Oh sure, there are challenges, some known and others, as yet unknown. Where is that crystal ball anyway? It is said that lest we remember history, we are doomed to repeat it. I choose not to participate in any repeats. There is enough to do in the weeks and months ahead to keep me busy without worrying about what's past.
First priority here is continuing Suzanne's progress in her battle with cancer. Looking forward, it doesn't seem to be one of those 'uphill" battles, but rather one of holding an even keel through unknown waters. We had six months of excellent medical support last year through her diagnosis and the seemingly endless treatments. Equally important was the moral support of family, friends and complete strangers. That support continues, for which we are eternally grateful, while the medical support has ended. With no insurance and no funds currently available, our only hope is that another study grant can be found that will accept her and allow for continued evaluation of her condition and further treatments if warranted.
So, what else is ahead in 2011? Well, there's the work yet to be done on the preparation for roll-out of the first 3D social network on the Internet. I joined the fray back in early 2009, as a member and was soon coerced to throw in a little money to become a working member; one with a title no less. That year came and went without realization of the company's dream, and even though we registered over a half million members, the site was shut down for the last quarter of the year. This past year, things began looking up again. Progress was made, a few promises were kept and several milestones were achieved. 2011 looks very promising for the company and its supporters.
In the weeks ahead, I'll be chronicling our progress, from my perspective, of course. I'll discuss some of the spin-offs from the original project as well as some deviations I've undertaken in an effort to assure myself of a fallback, just in case things go south again on the big one. My ramblings will be interspersed with updates on Suzanne's cancer status and our efforts to obtain funding for the battle still to be waged. I'll also occasionally intersperse facts with nonsense and humor as the mood strikes me.
I became aware of these random thoughts in my wandering mind a couple of years ago, and looking back, wish I had possessed the foresight to begin recording them. But alas, I have only my memory to work with and that, as I noted earlier, comes and goes of its own volition. Here's an example: Not that it matters one whit, but when did we stop calling women who act, "actresses" and start calling them "actors" instead? Stewardesses became "flight attendants" and that I understand, although I'm as guilty as the next guy of reverting to the old nomenclature on occasion. I am reminded of an old comic routine by Shelly Berman that includes the phrase "There are many incongruities in the English language". But, I'll save that for another blog.
